Introduction from Lord Lansdowne

Obviously, I am biased. If I wasn't, I shouldn't be writing this introduction! However, Bowood Park is unique. Where else in Southern England can you find a park of almost 2,000 acres without any public roads invading it? This wonderful resource has been continually evolving ever since it formed part of the Royal Hunting Forest of Pewsham. Through the centre of the park, running into Capability Brown's lake, are five valleys, each with streams feeding into the main water course. This structure - a mixture of lake, streams, valleys and outstanding woodlands, creates this remarkable oasis. From the house, there isn't another building in sight. Yet it is only an hour and a half from London, thirty five minutes from Bristol, eight miles south of exit 17 off the M4 and three miles from Chippenham, which is on the main Bristol to Paddington line.

There are five private estate roads, all feeding into a central hub, focusing on the house and grounds. This infrastructure lends itself to large numbers of visitors being able to arrive and leave without delays. These private drives connect with the A4, A3102 and A342. There is nothing more frustrating than queuing when leaving an event. Bowood's park is ideally suited for large outdoor events. Excellent infrastructure, ample car parking and unlimited space, with views stretching up to the Wiltshire Downs, leaving an indelible memory of breathtaking beauty to all who visit.
